Welcome to Granum!
Granum is the smallest incorporated town in all of Alberta. Granum is an ideal springboard location close to adventures in Waterton National Park, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, Castle Mountain Ski Resort, the Oldman Dam, Frank Slide and other attractions throughout the Crowsnest Pass area.
A Bit of History
“The Leavings” was the cowboys’ label for the end of the trail where cattle were left for loading onto trains. Desiring a more poetic name pioneer residents reached into classical Latin (Granum for grain) for “Village of Granum”, two years before the community’s elevation to town status in 1910.
Granum is located on Highway 519 and Highway 2. It’s an easy commute to both Fort Macleod to the south and Claresholm to the north. Granum is ideally located a quick hours drive to both Calgary and Lethbridge giving proximity to two airports, shopping centres and large medical facilities.
